THE HISTORY OF WOMEN POLITICIANS OF ZIMBABWE
Join us as Joyce Jenje Makwenda launches her book and documentary film "The History of Women Politicians of Zimbabwe" on Tuesday, April 22 at 16:00 hrs at the Zimbabwe Academy of Music (1 Hillside Road, Bulawayo).
The History of Women Politicians of Zimbabwe Documentary and Book examines the different political eras and illustrate how women’s involvement has shaped their lives and history throughout different epochs. The most significant being the Pre-colonial era; the Pioneer (colonial) era from1890’s; the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland (1953-1963); the UDI era 1965-1979, and post-colonial era, which can itself be subdivided in various periods; 1980 to 1987, 1988 to 1999 and from 2000 to 2008 – to 2023 to today. Each era reflects a new women involvement and participation in the evolution of Zimbabwean women political history.
Some of the women featured in different eras are - Nehanda, Queen Lozikeyi, Ruth Chinamano, Muriel Rosin, Betty Mutero, Jane Ngwenya, Eileen Haddon, Thenjiwe Lesabe, Diana Mitchell, Eunice Nomthandazo Sandi Moyo, Angeline Masuku, Maina Mandava, Agnes Dete, Helen Mnagwende, Ayema Musodzi, Tsitsi Munyati, Joice Mujuru, Margaret Dongo, Beater Nyamupinga, Patricia Ndlovhu and Thokozani Khupe.
